I have nine of these fish, Paratheraps Sp. "coatzacoalcos" Rio Carolina, in various tanks. Two breeding pair. This is the largest male of the group @8". It's a very colorful fish that is very similar in appearance to the P. zonatus.
One thing I have noted is that they are very skittish...the male in particular. Who will dive for cover when/if I approach the tank too quickly
The electic blue coloration makes them very easy on the eyes. Especially with a close up of their beautiful face.
They have a terrific appetite. Here's the male getting ready to eat one of the 9mm monster pellets sold by Xtreme aquatic foods. Great stuff. The big pellets allows me to somewhat control the amount of food that goes into the tank and is eaten.
And a close up of his spectacular colored dorsal fins.
Really a great fish. I have a 100 gallon tank full of one inch fry. Hopefully I can get to a place where I can distribute them to other hobbyists soon. If not, I will wait till the next convention.
